This series is an invitation to discover the profound connection between yoga and the energy centers within our subtle body. These energy centres, known as "chakras", govern specific areas of our lives, our behaviour, and our emotions and are believed to have a strong bearing on our physical health, mental state, and how we relate to others.
The theme of each class will be focused on one of the chakras, with mindfully created sequences, guided meditation, breathing exercises (pranayama), and gentle music dedicated to that specific chakra. Each session will also include an introduction to the chakra, its location and function, associated colour and element, affirmations, sounds, body parts, and areas of life it governs, as well as how it can manifest as imbalanced (hyper- or hypo- active) and balanced. Through gentle and restorative yoga postures, breathwork, and meditation, we'll explore each chakra, working with the qualities associated with each energetic centre to balance and harmonize our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

This Chakras Journey

Grounded • Muladhara/Root
Located at the base of the spine, the Root Chakra represents our foundation, stability, and connection to the physical world. It relates to our sense of safety, security, and basic survival needs.
When this chakra is out of balance, a person starts feeling unstable and ungrounded, fearful, insecure and frustrated; they may have a lack of ambition or purpose. When balanced, it brings a sense of stability, strength, balance, confidence, independence; feeling of being rooted.
This class focuses on grounding, stability, and building a strong foundation through grounding postures and practices that connect us to the Root Chakra.
Monday, Sept 11 - 6:45pm
In Flow • Svadhisthana/Sacral
Located in the lower abdomen, the Sacral Chakra is associated with our emotions, creativity, sensuality, passion, and self-worth. It governs our ability to experience pleasure, embrace change, and connect with others on an intimate level.
When this is imbalanced, a person may feel emotionally explosive and irritable, sense a lack of energy and creativity, feel manipulative, or as if they lack control. When balanced, it enhances our creativity, emotional well-being, and nurtures healthy relationships; it makes one feel more vibrant, happy, positive, satisfied, compassionate, and intuitive.
This class explores the Sacral Chakra through fluid movements, creative sequences, and practices that awaken our creative energy and ignite our passion. Although this session will include a few more 'fluid' movements and sequences, but will still remain gentle and slow. (hint: lots of hip openers!)
Wednesday, Sept 13 - 7:45pm
Empowered • Manipura/Solar Plexus
Located in the upper abdomen, the Solar Plexus Chakra is associated with our personal power, self-confidence, and willpower. It governs our sense of purpose, self-esteem, and ability to manifest our desires.
When imbalanced, one might struggle with digestive problems, lack of self-esteem, anger, and perfectionism. When balanced, it empowers us to embrace our personal power, make confident decisions, and take purposeful action; we feel more energetic, confident, productive, and focused.
Centered around the Solar Plexus Chakra, this class emphasizes strengthening the core, cultivating self-confidence, and tapping into our personal power. Still within the restorative yoga context, expect a little more muscle engagement from the mid-body, gentle intense breathwork, and more twists.
Monday, Sept 18 - 6:45pm
Expansive • Anahata/Heart
Located at the center of the chest, the Heart Chakra represents love, compassion, and emotional healing. It governs our ability to give and receive love, cultivate forgiveness, and foster harmonious relationships. It influences our ability to love and connect with ourself and others in our lives.
When the heart chakra is imbalanced, a person may deal with emotional issues like anger, lack of trust, anxiety, jealousy, fear, and moodiness. When balanced, it opens us to unconditional love, empathy, joy, and deep connection with ourselves and others.
This class invites us to open our hearts, cultivate compassion, and nurture loving-kindness as we explore heart-opening postures and practices to connect with the Heart Chakra.
Wednesday, Sept 20 - 7:45pm
Expressive • Vishudda/Throat
Located in the throat region, the Throat Chakra is the gateway for energy between the lower parts of the body and the head, and is guided by principles of self-expression, communication, and our authentic voice. It governs our ability to express our thoughts, feelings, and truths with clarity and confidence.
A blockage in the throat chakra may be experienced as timidity, quietness, a feeling of weakness, or the inability to express our thoughts. We might feel completely incapable of expressing and maintaining boundaries. When balanced, it enables us to speak our truth, listen attentively, and communicate effectively. You can express yourself.
This class will explore postures that will help stimulate energies that are associated with the Throat Chakra, and focus on areas like the throat, neck, shoulders, and mouth - spaces that tend to hold a lot of tension. The throat is often called our "truth centre" and this practice can create a beautiful release for those who have not been able to fully express themselves.
Monday, Sept 25 - 6:45pm
Connected • Ajna/Third Eye
Located in the center of the forehead, between the eyebrows, the Third Eye Chakra represents intuition, inner wisdom, and spiritual insight. It governs our ability to perceive beyond the physical realm and trust our inner guidance. Its attributes are intelligence, intuition, insight, and self-knowledge.
When imbalanced, one may feel non-assertive and afraid of success - or inversely more egotistical. An imbalance can manifest as physical problems like headaches, blurry vision, and eye strain.
When balanced, it enhances our intuition, imagination, and deepens our connection to our higher self. We may feel more vibrant and confident, both spiritually and emotionally, and lack irrational fears and anxieties. Inner peace.
This class delves into the Third Eye Chakra, inviting us to tap into our intuition, expand our awareness, and develop a deeper sense of inner wisdom through meditation, visualization, and introspective practices.
Monday, Oct 2 - 6:45pm
Balanced • Final Class: ALL CHAKRAS
This final class is dedicated to each of the chakras - including Sahasrara, the "Crown Chakra."
A restorative yoga class to observe all seven chakras, this session will also involve themed asana (physical postures), guided meditation, breathwork, etc to balance the entire chakra system.
This class will have less emphasis on the descriptions of each chakra, and will instead tie together the concepts learned in previous classes. Still suitable for drop-ins.
Wednesday, Oct 4 - 7:45pm
Optional: wear the colours associated with each chakra to your class!
FAQ's
Wait...what are the chakras?
In traditional Indian medicine and spiritual science, the physical body is more than merely bones, muscles, and organs encased in skin. Instead, it includes layers of energy fields that surround the physical body. These interconnected metaphysical layers create the body's electromagnetic field (aka our "aura"). This is what's known as the "subtle body."
In yoga, the life force energy ("prana") travels through the subtle body in a series of channels, called "nadis." These nadis intersect at points of intensified energy, called "chakras." A Sanskrit word for "wheel," chakras are spinning vortexes of energy in the subtle body that correspond to various glands along the spine and inside the skull. According to yoga philosophy, the human body has seven major chakras. These are what we will be exploring in this series.
Chakras govern specific behaviours and values in our lives - such as security, communication, and love, for example. They also regulate various bodily systems and how we generally show up in the world. Every chakra also corresponds to an element, to a "mantra", and to a specific color along the rainbow spectrum.
When the nadis get blocked because of poor habits and old patterns, the chakras stagnate. This causes the life force to become sluggish, which can lead to depleted physical, mental, and emotional health. Practicing yoga purifies and revitalizes the nadis and chakras, allowing prana to once again flow freely.

These classes are suitable for ages 16 and up, with no previous yoga or meditation experience necessary. These classes are accessible and inclusive, and are a safe space.
Just a reminder that for some people the word "chakra" doesn't resonate. Please know that this is okay. Sometimes I like to think of 'chakras' as 'chapters' - or even layers within us, and exercises like this simply offer a beautiful opportunity for self-reflection and to explore different areas of our lives on whatever level we're wanting and ready for. This is only an invitation - and the experience you end up having is perfect. Promise.
If you have any concerns or questions, please reach out prior to registration, we're happy to discuss!
Wait, is this a workshop or a yoga class?
It's kind of both.
It's a special yoga event series that is primarily focused on the most common key yoga components: asana (physical postures), meditation, and pranayama (breathing).
There will be explanations given on each of the chakras and philosophies woven throughout the class, as well as self-reflection prompts offered. Although there will not be a time slot formally designated for journalling, feel free to bring yours along to jot down notes, ideas, thoughts, dreams, or anything else that wants to come through you. Also note that there will not be group sharing - so fear not, my fellow introverts!
What's the cancellation policy?
Please provide 48 hours notice for cancellation via email. Please note that no refunds will be issued beyond this cancellation window. You can, however, transfer/gift your spot to someone else that could really use this workshop.
